SALARY SURVEYS: Infection preventionists in 2012

There was a drop in the average salary reported by the infection preventionists in 2012 ($71,395) compared to 2011 ($72,045), according to this survey compiled by Healthcare Purchasing News.  Infection preventionists include infection control directors, epidemiologists, microbiologists, and infection control nurses, among others.  Salaries were found to be higher in hospitals, especially system-affiliated hospitals, than in other types of provider settings.  Generally, salaries tend to be higher in larger hospitals.
