OPERATING ROOMS: Turnover trends 2005 to 2015 (updated 9/15/15)

Each year, the journal OR Manager takes a survey of subscribers who are OR managers.  Results are provided separately for hospital operating rooms versus ambulatory surgery centers.  I’d like to highlight their trend data for average RN turnover rate below.

Average Perioperative RN Turnover Rate

  • 7% 2005
  • 7% 2006
  • 8% 2007
  • 7% 2008
  • 5% 2009
  • 5% 2010
  • 8% 2011
  • 5% 2012
  • 6% 2013
  • 6% 2014
  • 9% 2015

The original source has comparable data for surgical technicians.  There are also skill mix and lots of other data.  It’s hard to find survey data on these topics, so I always enjoy seeing this — in the September issue each year.
