Largest teaching hospitals in US: Modern Healthcare list

The following list of the top 5 U.S. teaching hospitals is based on the NUMBER OF RESIDENTS AND INTERNS, derived from Medicare cost report data for 2012.

  1. New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell (NY)
  2. Montefiore (New York, NY)
  3. Cleveland Clinic (OH)
  4. University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, MI)
  5. Johns Hopkins (Baltimore)

The list, as published in the magazine, has an additional 20 large teaching hospitals, as well as counts of the number of residents and interns, the medical school affiliation of the hospitals, and the annual patient discharges.
