Impact of Community Hospitals on U.S. Jobs

Community hospitals in the U.S. were directly responsible for 5.6 million jobs in 2012. However, these jobs had a ripple or multiplier effect that generated another 10.1 million jobs nationwide. Community hospitals accounted for an overall total of 15.6 million direct or ripple effect jobs.

Hospital job impact data is also available for individual states in an analysis recently released by the American Hospital Association.

The ripple impact of hospital jobs is based on the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis’ RIMS-II model used for regional planning.
