SMOKE-FREE hiring policies at Massachusetts hospitals

An estimated three-quarters of the hospitals in Massachusetts have smokefree campuses, banning smoking even in the parking lots.  A few hospitals have gone even further — requiring new hires to test nicotine free in a routine urine test to screen for other drugs.  Employees who smoke are not being let go, but new hires are to be nonsmokers.  Here are the  Massachusetts hospitals that have implemented this:

  • Anna Jaques (Newburyport, MA)
  • Cooley Dickinson Hospital (Northampton, MA)
  • MetroWest Medical Center
  • Heywood Hospital (Gardner, MA)
  • New England Baptist Hospital
  • Saint Vincent Hospital (Worcester, MA)
