Mandatory flu vaccination: How did HCA implement the program? (Case study of a large provider system)

Prior to implementation of a mandatory flu vaccination program, the all-employee vaccination rate at HCA, Inc., averaged 58 percent.  For each of the three years after the mandatory Influenza Patient Safety Program was put in place at this large national health system, the rate increased to over 90 percent.  Employees do have the right to decline to be vaccinated, but must then wear face masks while in patient care areas during flu season.  This lengthy, scholarly article provides tips on how to implement a mandatory vaccination program and lessons learned in this large-scale project.
