BENCHMARKS: Hospital environmental services staffing

INDUSTRY BENCHMARKS

  • 1,200 to 1,400 square feet per man-hour

The author, who is director of environmental services at St. Joseph’s Hospital (Tampa), says that “most companies” aim for this target, but they should be modified by an analysis of the utilization of the hospital.  If, for example, the emergency department or labor & delivery is very busy, then these guidelines would not be reasonable.  This brief article also itemizes the fours steps of an environmental services staffing analysis.
