Truven Health Analytics has published the 15th edition of its list of top-performing hospitals for cardiovascular care. I spot one “heart center” on the list, the others look to be general med-surg hospitals. There are a total of 50 hospitals on the list, segmented fairly evenly into separate lists for 1.) teaching hospitals with cardiovascular residencies, 2.) teaching hospitals without cardiovascular residencies, and 3.) non-teaching hospitals. The hospitals that made the Truven list are not further “ranked;” there is no number 1, for example. There are interesting tables with benchmarking data for the top-performing hospitals (aggregated into the three groups mentioned above). For example, a median risk-adjusted mortality index for heart attack or bypass patients in teaching hospitals with cardiovascular residencies.
I’ve listed two sources below. The Modern Healthcare article reports on the Truven study. The second source is the full Truven study, which is available in full text on the web.
