OPERATING ROOMS: RN turnover rate 6.4 percent (mean)

I always enjoy OR Manager magazine’s surveys.  This one had responses from 155 hospital OR directors, who took the survey in Spring 2013.  Here’s some of the items that they report data about (remember that these are all questions geared to the surgical suite):

  • How tough is it to recruit nurses?
  • Percent of FTE positions open
  • Number of open FTE positions
  • Number of weeks positions have been open
  • Staff TURNOVER rate (by type of facility and region)
  • Percentage that use agency or travel nurses
  • Use of overtime
  • Do surgical techs circulate?
  • RATIO of RNs to SURGICAL TECHS
  • How has the economy affected staffing?

For some of these — comparative data are given for 2013, 2011, 2009, and 2007.
