Walmart offers retail clinics on a partnership model, leasing space to local providers who provide the nurse practitioner staff and operate under their own names. Berger Health System and Fairfield Medical Center, both providers in Central Ohio, have struggled with low volume in retail clinics in the Walmart setting. However, another Ohio provider, Adena Health System, has done well with two different Walmart retail clinic locations. CVS takes a different approach, staffing its own Minute Clinics. The draw for the local providers in partnering in these clinics is increased name recognition and potential referrals.
