US hospitals total margin 5.53%: TRUVEN 2012 data

These data are medians based on a sample of about 500 hospitals from the Truven Health Analytics’ Health ActionOI database.

Total Margin by Type of Hospital: US 2012 medians

  • 7.54% large community hospitals
  • 5.34% teaching hospitals
  • 5.28% medium community hospitals
  • 5.15% major teaching hospitals
  • 4.94% small community hospitals
  • 5.53% ALL HOSPITALS

This published insert also has, for the same categories of hospitals, operating margin, labor expense per adjusted discharge, net operating revenue, and total expense per discharge.  It includes trend data for 2009 through 2012.
