Largest U.S. Health Insurance/Managed Care Companies by 2012 Revenue

Ten health insurance firms made this year’s Fortune 500 list of the nation’s largest corporations based on 2012 total revenue. The health insurers with their overall rank [within brackets] included on the Fortune 500 list were:

  1. UnitedHealth Group [17]
  2. WellPoint [47]
  3. Humana [73]
  4. Aetna [84]
  5. Cigna [103]
  6. Coventry Health Care [195]
  7. Health Net [236]
  8. Centene [303]
  9. WellCare Health Plans [345]
  10. Molina Healthcare [423]

Revenue, profit, number of employees and stockholder data can be viewed for each company on the list. Previous Fortune 500 listings are available online back to 2006. Check last year’s post for the list of health insurance companies included in the ranking.
