Top 10 states for Medicare home health visits per episode

These data are based on Medicare claims for home health visits provided in 2011.  Below are the top ten states with the highest average home health visits per episode (I’ve rounded the following numbers — they are given at two decimal places in the original source).  These data come from SafeGuard Services, LLC, a contactor to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

Home Health Utilization: 2011 average visits per episode

1. Utah 28
2. New York 22
3. Ohio 22
4. Wisconsin 20
5. Wyoming 19

In comparison, the US national average was about 18 visits per episode.  The state with the lowest utilization was Oregon with 13.
