Walgreen’s offers over 330 Take Care Clinics, open 7 days including evenings, staffed by nurse practitioners or physician assistants. These retail clinics have up until now focused on acute illnesses — it’s 5 pm and my child has a fever — but are now expanding into providing services geared towards patients with chronic illness. The press release emphasizes that the Take Care Clinics are intended to work cooperatively with existing physician practices and medical homes. There is also thought that they may fit into the continuum of care in a formal way through clinical affiliations.
