Radiology: improving efficiency in a large teaching hospital

A study to improve the efficiency of the radiology department at Nassau University Medical Center (East Meadow, NY) in order to decrease the time involved in the reporting of STAT test results and also to contribute to the “Get with the Guidelines” stroke patient initiative is described in this detailed article.  Among the changes made were to train more technicians to be able to perform head CT exams, to increase weekend coverage, and to designate dedicated CT transport staff.  A checklist of how a hospital can “Get with the Guidelines” is included.
