How Washington University School of Medicine and Barnes Jewish Hospital (St. Louis, 1100 beds) worked out an agreement for anesthesiology coverage in the OR and at remote locations is described in this lengthy, detailed article. A key challenge was deciding how to define work, and several alternatives are discussed. Implementation of the new contract was successful in improving faculty satisfaction and decreasing friction between the medical school and the hospital.
